Lesley got the idea to have me make the dogs bunk beds. I came home from work and was told to get started. I'm not sure the reason behind the beds. There's nothing wrong with the dogs on their beds on the floor. Maybe this bed will give Lola a little perch to look out the window and watch all the workers build the houses across the street.
Something sad has happened recently. My grandpa Sadler passed away after a long life. He went peacefully to the other side. I wish my Grandma the best as she adjusts to the temporary separation. I remember my Grandpa asleep in his green hammock under the trees as he camped at their property in the Uintahs. I remember him with his leg crossed, toothpick in his mouth after breakfast, whittling away at some wood he found on the ground. I remember him carving away in his workshop. He was the most talented carver I have ever met. I remember him supporting me at all my important life events and baseball games. He was a man of few words, many of which included a "hell" and "damn." He often preferred to sit behind the conversations and let Grandma do all the talking. But all these things made him Grandpa.
Anyway, Summer still hasn't officially started here in the Pacific Northwest. We are still gloomy and in the 60's. Our heaters still occasionally turn on at night. I'm excited to go down to Utah this month and spend time with the family and see the sunshine.
A few days ago, I had my car parked out in the driveway overnight. My garage was occupied by the doggie bunk beds. I got in the car one morning to go to the gym and my car was messier than normal. Some things were in my front seat that should have been in the back seat. My trunk was ajar. My glove box was open. Turns out that a Fedex box full of replacement plates and screws was stolen. I'm lucky that our trays full of surgical instruments and implants weren't stolen. They are super expensive. To illustrate, the small box that was stolen was probably worth $15-$20k. Luckily two days later, I found all my stuff mangled and laying half covered in dirt at an undeveloped lot near the entrance of our development. What a relief!
Yesterday I was at Home Depot pricing out my next projects and wishing I could buy everything in the store. When I was walking down the isle to leave, I noticed a guy that was looking at a really tall ladder. He made his selection and was trying to lift it out of the area meant to keep them from falling over. I asked him if he wanted some help as it looked like he was struggling. He said "no, I'm fine. I got it." I was no more than 15 feet away from him when he slipped and lost control of the ladder. He fell on the concrete floor and hit his head. The ladder fell on his face and shoulder. He went unconscious for a couple minutes. I ran over and lifted the ladder off of him while yelling for help. When he woke up, he was trying to scream in pain, but couldn't because his jaw was broken from the ladder. I also think that one or both of his collar bones were broken. The paramedics arrived and carefully placed him on a stretcher and took him away. It reminded me of all my concussions.
Well, I better get ready for church. I love 1pm church--NOT! Nolan has been pretty good so far as he has a full stomach. He will lay quietly or be asleep for most of the time.
Until next time....
